For our client GSK we are looking for a Director, EU Corporate Government Affairs.

Job Purpose

This is a new role, reporting into the VP & Head, Global Government Engagement. The role has no direct reports.

As the Consumer Healthcare EU Corporate Government Affairs Director, this role will lead work to build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the EU institutions. They will serve as the lead ambassador for dialogue with EU policymakers as we prepare to become a stand-alone consumer healthcare company dedicated to better everyday health. This role will collaborate with the four business units that comprise the European business to deliver a coordinated and effective joint corporate/commercial approach with EU stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute an EU government affairs strategy that positions the new consumer healthcare company as a trusted partner and thought leader.

  • Work in partnership with commercial government affairs colleagues to deliver coordinated and effective stakeholder engagement and advocacy.

  • Ensure buy-in and coordination to support strategy delivery across the matrixed Consumer Healthcare organization.

  • Develop a stakeholder engagement approach that effectively deploys senior leaders and provide strategic guidance and insight to support senior leader engagement.

  • Contribute insight and intelligence to senior leader briefings, helping to ensure ongoing understanding of the political environment and the potential impact on the business.

  • Advocate for CH’s public policy agenda.

  • Act as a public affairs spokesperson and coordinate response to GA inquiries.

Experiences

This is a leadership role requiring the individual to have established experience in government affairs including the development and execution of government affairs strategy, and policy development.

The role requires the individual to manage new and emerging issues, making decisions on the course of action, and providing advice to senior leadership on the way forward.

The role requires the individual to engage with colleagues around the world, working to develop and deliver a corporate government affairs strategy in a large number of markets with significant diversity of stakeholders.

The role will represent Consumer Healthcare with external stakeholders and require the individual to build trusted relationships including to senior level.

  • Proven track record of government affairs leadership in a multinational company and/or within government, think tank, industry association.

  • Demonstrated experience in building and executing strong government affairs strategy.

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, and a strong track record of executing cross-functional projects.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work with cross-functional and multi-stakeholder teams.

  • Proven ability to engage and influence others at both peer and senior levels within and outside the organisation.

  • Strong knowledge of the EU policy and political landscape as it relates to consumer healthcare.

  • Demonstrated experience leading engagement with EU policymakers.

  • Expertise in issues affecting business operations and interests in the political context.

 Education

  • Master’s degree / graduate degree preferred.
