VMAGROUP is a business that revolves around people. The relationships we have internally, and those we build externally are at the heart of everything we do.
First and foremost, we are experts in recruitment, but we don’t just fill roles, we nurture relationships with our clients and candidates, we develop market leading research and thought leadership as well as hosting a range of industry events in the UK and internationally.
Many of our consultants have worked in communications or marketing. Their professional backgrounds range from heading up corporate communications teams to managing change programmes and marketing campaigns.
We also have consultants who have backgrounds in specialist recruitment and commercial sales environments, who have developed their knowledge of our disciplines and bring their commercial capabilities to benefit our clients.
These diverse backgrounds complement and support a collaborative culture. We work together rather than against each other.
Watch the video below to hear from our consultants what it’s really like working for VMAGROUP.
VMAGROUP believes in developing our employees.
In 2019 we introduced the VMAGROUP Professional Development Fund.
This fund allows employees’ to choose their own professional development course; whether that’s a day to develop their presentation skills or they are looking to subsidise a longer course to build their skills in management.
VMAGROUP also run various internal and external training courses; to develop skills in various aspects of recruitment, management or the commercial environment.
We are a member of APSCo and members of our teams attend forums and events on a regular basis to keep up to date on legislation, best practice and wider recruitment industry trends.
We utilise our internal expertise and our external network to deliver a series of “Lunch & Learns.” These build our team’s knowledge of the markets and communities we recruit for as well as their skills and confidence in recruitment.
We have moved away from the traditional annual appraisal and are transparent around our promotional processes for consultants.
The VMAGROUP Pathway takes employees from coordinator up to director, with clear criteria and expectations around what is required for promotion from one level to the next and a bi-annual opportunity to make that happen.
Our team are the best in the business, and we know we couldn’t do it without them.
We aren’t super human…we don’t always get it right but we believe that VMAGROUP is a great place to work and we are always looking for ways to make it even better.
We run an employee engagement survey every year – and here are some of the things we have adopted in our business as a result of the feedback we received from our team:
- Flexible working hours
- Work from home days each week
- “Ask Andrew” Monthly CEO question time
- Wellbeing Week
We use @Workplace to share business information, celebrate individual and team successes, and collaborate across teams and international regions. We also share exciting news, such as the arrival of any mini VMA’ers of the future, sporting achievements, wedding bells and pictures of fun socials.

At VMAGROUP, we love to celebrate together, whether it’s a successful quarter, a long hot summer, a significant personal event for one of our staff, or our 40th anniversary of being in business; whatever we are celebrating, we do it in style!
Our team love supporting charities that are close to our hearts and we love to cheer on our colleagues who are taking on personal challenges for charity. Some examples over the recent years have been:
- VMAGROUP team Santa Dash – GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital)
- Children in Need day
- Red Nose Day Bingo
- Brain Tumour Charity – Christmas Quiz
We have a celebratory culture at VMAGROUP: whether you are a billing consultant or on the operational side of the business, everyone strives for success, and their efforts are rewarded by fun getaways and team outings.
Whether the reward is big or small, we make sure that our team receives the recognition they deserve across the business.
Elite Club – Our most exciting incentive is a quarterly reward for those consultants and operational staff who go above and beyond their targets and objectives. Golden tickets are awarded to operational staff to recognise their contribution to the business.
2018 Winner - Marketing & Communications Specialist Team
We are delighted to have been recognised at the 2018 Marketing & Digital Recruitment Awards where we were named best Marketing & Communications Specialist Team. On the night, the jury’s verdict was:
“Their candidate care, jobseeker empathy and placement success, aligned with enhanced client understanding for a more meaningful, effective hiring partnership highlighted this agency as a worthy winner in this category.”
At VMAGROUP, we always strive to build exceptional relationships with both clients and candidates, and this award is testament to the hard work and dedication of our specialist recruitment and search consultants.
Our five company values are at the core of any VMA’er and we make sure that anyone who joins the business has similar values.
We also nominate our colleagues once a quarter who have embodied our company values in their roles and reward them with prizes and the public adoration of the rest of the team.
What better way to hire someone than via a personal referral of an existing employee? Many of our consultants have successfully referred a communications or marketing professional into the team.
