A global trade association for shipowners and operators is enhancing its corporate team with the appointment of a Digital & Social Media Officer. Reporting into the Communications Manager, this is an exciting role with a wide remit. You will be responsible for helping to deliver the association’s communications strategy across a range of social media and stakeholders. This includes increasing its profile and visibility, reaching the wider public, and helping create greater awareness of issues such as the vital contribution of shipping to the global economy and its environmental performance.
The association’s purpose is to ensure the development, promotion and application of best practices throughout the shipping industry. This encompasses issues of maritime affairs, shipping policy and technical matters, including ship construction, operation, safety and management working with a number of UN bodies. The association is also promoting the sustainable and equitable decarbonisation of the shipping industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with the Communications Executive and Communications Manager to execute the communications plan
Day to day management of the ICS website
Maintain and enhance website content including writing new material and re-purposing existing copy for social media channels
Assist the Communications Executive in updating and managing a calendar of social media activity, and ensure timely execution
Help coordinate the production of the newsletter and other collateral as required
Ensure key member events are accurately updated on the website and communicated via appropriate social media channels
Be responsible for the distribution of digital content for the website (photography, video, audio)
Initiate creative ways of disseminating news coverage via social media channels
Responsible for the tracking and measurement of social media content and assist the Communications Executive with any other monitoring and evaluation tools
Ensure the maintenance of ICS website and social media accounts is always up to date
Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, and external suppliers and agencies as appropriate
Ensure consistency of tone and style, and adherence to ICS brand guidelines, on all social media channels
Work with the communications team to regularly test the effectiveness of messages and channels through questionnaires, reporting, and through building relationships, and amend where necessary
Carry out various administrative tasks as required to support the communications team
Key Skills required:
Demonstrable experience of using social media channels to generate coverage
Skills in editing, video, photography
Good project management skills
Good stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrable experience of managing website content and using Content Management Systems
A strong understanding of measurement analytics
Self-driven and an ability to work on own initiative
Excellent English written and oral communications skills
Fast and accurate research, writing and copy-editing skills
Experience of using CISION or similar coverage and distribution system desirable
Understanding of the maritime sector desirable but not essential
Additional language appreciated but not essential
