Corporate Communications Specialist

​A global steel manufacturer is seeking a Corporate Communications Specialist to join its team. This is a key role in a small team and the successful candidate will be involved in everything from developing messaging and content, planning and executing communication strategies both internally and externally for a range of key business themes in order to promote and protect the organisation’s reputation, and maintain and enhance the company's license to operate worldwide.

You will an excellent writer, a great storyteller, with experience ideally gained both in-house and agency side. You’ll be a proactive self-starter with excellent stakeholder management skills, comfortable liaising with senior managers as well as local employees “on the ground” internationally.

Whilst industry experience isn’t essential, knowledge or experience in heavy industries and extractive industries is a plus.

Key responsibilities:

  • Play an integral role in drafting and creating collaterals (press releases, messaging / positioning documents, Q&As, content for corporate website and intranet etc.) for a range of communications issues / events.

  • Lead on the development and execution of the company’s social media (twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) strategy; develop an annual social media content calendar; promote key company news / developments through social channels; create and curate content for social channels which embodies the company’s purpose.

  • Support head of comms in media relations engagement to promote and protect the company’s reputation; generate positive media coverage of initiatives and programs to enhance the brand and reputation of the company and identify and manage external risks that have potential to generate negative media coverage.

  • Brief and prepare communications materials to support members of the company’s leadership team in all communications activities, including advice and support during media engagement, issues management and strategic positioning of the company. May also involve editing or drafting speeches and presentations.

  • To work as a key member of the corporate communications team to manage and deliver campaign focussed work (external and internal) on matters critical to the company’s reputation (health and safety, climate change / decarbonisation, ESG more broadly inc. D&I).

  • Play a key role in all aspects of the company’s financial communications: financial results, shareholder events, all capital market communications.

  • Manage the preparation and release of media releases and stock exchange announcements in a manner consistent with internal compliance processes and stock exchange regulations.

  • Broaden the company’s external communications efforts: identify conferences and speaking opportunities for company leadership across a range of topics.

  • Work with the brand, content and campaigns manager to ensure that content across all owned channels is current, relevant and engaging.

  • Support on the management and development of a new corporate intranet for the company.

  • Support on all aspects of communications around mergers and acquisitions.

  • Provide support to country communications teams on matters / issues that have the potential to impact the company’s global reputation.

  • Support head of communications in management of crisis issues.
