Senior External Communications Manager

The Opportunity

My client, a leading energy provider, is seeking a Senior External Communications Manager to support the Head of External Communications in building the organisation’s reputation with political, media, and industry stakeholders.

This is a high-profile role that will shape how the organisation is perceived across Westminster, Whitehall, and the UK energy industry - positioning it as a leading voice in the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of an external communications strategy covering public affairs, media, and digital channels

  • Build and maintain relationships across Westminster, Whitehall, Parliament, government, and media stakeholders

  • Oversee and quality-assure submissions to government consultations and parliamentary committees

  • Draft briefings, speeches, and opinion pieces for senior leaders

  • Manage day-to-day media enquiries, press releases, journalist briefings, and OpEds

  • Support digital and social media activity, including optimisation of the corporate website

  • Deputise for the Head of External Communications when required

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Strong political and media networks, with proven ability to influence at senior levels

  • Experience working with Westminster and Whitehall stakeholders, with knowledge of parliamentary and political processes

  • Background in media engagement (press office or corporate communications)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to distil complex issues into compelling messages

  • Experience within the energy, water, or other regulated sectors (desirable)

  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving political or corporate environment

  • Agency experience at a senior level (desirable)
