An exciting role in an award-winning communications team at the heart of the clean energy transition and net zero ambitions.

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is recruiting a Senior Communications Officer to support the delivery of strategic communications including advocacy campaigns for the global sustainable hydropower sector.

The successful candidate will have a track record in co-ordinating and producing outstanding external communications, including campaigns to policy, business and public audiences. They will have knowledge and experience of working in either a public affairs, advocacy or campaigning environment, ideally in an international context.

While experience in the renewable energy sector and climate change is not required, a strong interest and willingness to learn about hydropower and its role in the clean energy transition is essential to perform well in this role.

The Senior Communications Officer will work closely with another Senior Communications Officer, Design and Multimedia Manager, and the Head of Communications and Advocacy, as well as other IHA colleagues and external partners.

Support the Head of Communications and Advocacy in the delivery of a communications and advocacy strategy to ensure that hydropower’s role is recognised in the clean energy transition with policymakers, financial institutions, the wider energy sector and the public, and that principles of sustainable hydropower are well understood and adopted across the sector.

Key responsibilities:

Develop and execute communications plans for activities such as events/webinars, publications and advocacy initiatives to ensure that the objectives of the communications and advocacy strategy are met.

Produce high-quality written content for IHA’s communications channels, including websites, publications, emails, social media, events and our online membership platform, as well as writing features and op-ed articles for external websites and publications as required.

Support media management, including drafting media releases and performing media outreach.

Provide advice, training and resources to support IHA’s internal teams to become ambassadors for sustainable hydropower, and to ensure that key messages are effectively communicated when IHA representatives participate in external events and missions.

Support the delivery of flagship publications, including the Hydropower Status Report and IHA Annual Report.

Support the delivery of communications for events/webinars, including the World Hydropower Congress.

Contribute to the management of digital channels, such as the website, social media accounts, and IHA’s online membership platform.

Contribute to the measurement, evaluation and ongoing improvement of communications and advocacy activities.

Act as an ambassador of IHA’s brand identity and guidelines, ensuring consistency of voice, branding and messaging, and fostering a strong understanding of IHA’s brand identity among internal teams.

Carry out ad hoc communications tasks as needed to support ongoing work.
