We are looking for a Press Officer to join a fast-paced and exciting communications team at a membership organisation. This role is a natural fit for anyone who has strong writing skills, an understanding of what makes for a compelling narrative, and who is an independent worker. The ideal candidate will also enjoy working in a fast-paced press office environment in which they are responsible for fielding national, trade and local media queries on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted member of the press office team by helping field inbound media queries.

  • Help assemble media content which is consistent with our wider messaging and communications strategy.

  • Grow our audiences to deliver maximum communications impact across traditional and digital media channels.

  • Ensure that the company tone of voice is consistent across the organisation.

  • Maintain and grow the company’s member case study database.

  • Help to oversee the out of hours press line

  • Play a part in the development of strong media angles which can be sold in to target media.

  • Write compelling, incisive short and long form content, such as articles, blogs and commentary.

  • Maintain our extensive network of national, trade and local journalists.

  • An understanding of how to brief spokespeople as regards how to deal with press interviews.

  • Look for innovative ways to interact with audiences, including arranging live and interactive discussions.

  • Collaborate with teams across the organisation in order to maximise our impact across the widest possible range of communications channels.

  • Closely monitor our audience profile and develop an understanding of the various issues facing the private rented sector.

  • Work with our communications, campaigns, policy, marketing, and events colleagues to ensure we are delivering the right messages, through the right channels, to the right people.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of working on communications campaigns in a fast-paced professional services environment.

  • Ability to work independently and display initiative in a busy press office.

Desirable

  • Familarity with social media platforms.

  • Experience of working with a membership organisation.

  • Experience of housing issues, especially private rented housing.

  • Experience of employing an ‘audience first’ approach in a digital context.
