We are looking for a Media and Digital Affairs Officer to join a fast-paced and exciting communications team at a membership organisation. This newly-created role suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced press office environment, and who has a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted member of the press office team by helping field inbound media queries.

  • Help assemble media content which is consistent with our wider messaging and communications strategy.

  • Develop our ‘digital newsroom’ function.

  • Grow our audiences to deliver maximum communications impact across traditional and digital media channels.

  • Ensure that the tone of voice is consistent across the organisation.

  • Help to oversee the out of hours press line.

  • Possess an understanding of how to use design software, as well as an awareness of what makes for good visual content, in particular video and infographics, in a digital media context.

  • Follow and keep up to date with trends in digital media.

  • Responsible for conducting the conversation with our members and reaching out to target media stakeholders.

  • Look for innovative ways to interact with audiences, including arranging live and interactive discussions.

  • Responsible for working with colleagues from around the organisation to ensure our channels are used in a strategic and co-ordinated way which exemplifies NRLA values.

  • Closely monitor our audience profile.

  • Set out a digital media plan mapping out the shape we want our digital newsroom to take over the next year.

  • Work with our communications, campaigns, policy, marketing, and events colleagues to ensure we are delivering the right messages, through the right channels, to the right people.

  • Produce periodic reports on the performance and impact of your work and make recommendations for improvement.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent editorial skills, the ability to write and edit engagingly, targeting varied audiences.

  • An understanding of the subtle, but important, distinctions between digital marketing and digital PR.

  • Content planning and creation, including video production and the creation of engaging infographics.

  • The ability towork collaboratively with other teams.

Essential

  • Experience of working on communications campaigns in a fast-paced professional services environment.

  • Experience of using data analytics and other tools to evaluate performance of campaigns.

  • Experience of reputation management in the digital media sphere.

Desirable

  • Familarity with design platforms such as InDesign or similar.

  • Experience of working with a membership organisation.

  • Experience of housing issues, especially private rented housing.

  • Experience of employing an ‘audience first’ approach in a digital context.
