A leading transport infrastructure provider is seeking a Head of Media Relations. Reporting into the Director of Corporate Communications you will lead the company’s 24/7 press operation across the country and work closely with other major transport stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Set and deliver the media relations strategy to raise the profile and build and maintain the reputation of the company
  • Lead the media relations team in delivery of round the clock ‘best practice’ media relations
  • Develop and implement consistent 'best practice' professional policies, systems and practices that will improve business performance
  • Provide strategic and operational direction that ensures communications projects, products and services are planned, developed, implemented and managed effectively, efficiently and consistently
  • Advise senior managers, staff and others on handling media and other communication activities and issues
  • Work collaboratively across organisational boundaries to identify business needs, priorities and potential challenges that impact on, or are impacted by company communications and take action to mitigate risks and pursue opportunities
  • Demonstrate personal credibility and capability across the function to form strong and influential relationships between self, managers and communication colleagues to provide a source of authoritative advice on communications policy and practice to managers and others
  • Drive improvements in health and safety performance

Skills needed for this role

  • Ability to generate impactful and creative media coverage and campaigns in both print and broadcast
  • Proven experience in building relationships with journalists
  • Experience of working in a pressured environment, handling crisis situations and working with other organisations
  • Experience in working with senior leaders to support them with media engagement
  • Excellent writing and editorial skill
  • Strategic awareness and service planning
  • Highly politically astute
  • Experience working with people at all levels across a business
  • Working with external agencies to achieve business goals
