
GKN Automotive Establishes New Communications Function With the Help of VMA GROUP
GKN Automotive is the global leader in drive systems and a multinational manufacturer of driveline components, all-wheel-drive and eDrive systems for the automotive industry. Having pioneered electric drive systems, GKN are now the future of transportation and the trusted partner for most of the world's automotive companies. GKN employs around 27,500 people across 20 countries.
The Chief Communications Officer for GKN was tasked with building a new team, initially looking for an External Communications Manager to promote GKN's purpose, strategy, objectives and performance with external audiences and provide expert counsel to leaders.
As VMA GROUP began the initial search, it became apparent that GKN needed a more senior member of staff on board to fulfil the key responsibilities and aim to build and manage a communications team. Subsequently, VMA GROUP started looking for a Head of External Communication, who was an experienced communication practitioner with a proven track record of working with media and stakeholders to deliver the company's key messages.
The ideal candidate was required to have an extensive understanding of corporate communications and a strong working knowledge of public relations, crisis communications and external communications. Experience of working at senior levels within a large, global organisation and an in-depth understanding of the automotive sector and relevant influences were essential for this position.
Following a search for a strategic thinker with a proven ability to assist in the development of key business decisions, VMA GROUP was successful in finding a suitable candidate, that was subsequently appointed as the Head of External Communications.
