Every communications professional knows the importance of preparedness when it comes to dealing with a crisis but a global pandemic such as COVID-19 has posed a whole new set of complex challenges that have completely shifted the landscape.

From the outset it became clear that communications would be vital in how we dealt with this and in-house communications teams have found themselves at the epicentre of their organisations’ battle to stay on top of the crisis. This panel discussion explores how comms teams have adapted in light of the crisis and how they can exit the pandemic stronger.

The webinar was hosted by Emma Kane, CEO of Newgate Communications and featured the following panellists:

  • Julie Mazzei is a Principal Consultant at VMA GROUP. Julie focuses on interim and permanent communications and marketing recruitment in the Midlands and North of the UK.

  • Ian Wright CBE is the Chief Executive of the Food and Drink Federation, the voice of UK food and drink manufacturing and was formerly Corporate Relations Director and Communications Director at Diageo.

  • Helen Dunne is the Editor of CorpComms Magazine, the only monthly magazine targeted at the in-house communicator. Helen is a former financial journalist with almost 30 years’ experience including ten years at the Daily Telegraph and two years as deputy City Editor at the Mail on Sunday.

  • Russell Craig is the Director of Communications at AO World, the online-only retailer listed on the FTSE 250 Index. Russell’s career in comms has also included spells at Asda, Manchester Airports Group and Centrica.
