Into Communications: The CEO Perspective

What role do CEOs want their communications leaders to play? What are the in-demand skills that communicators must have? We answer these questions and more in our latest thought-leadership piece, Into Communications: The CEO Perspective.

In 2016, VMAGROUP published Beyond Communication: A CEO Perspective of Reputation Leadership. This report aimed to identify how CEOs viewed and used communications within their organisations, affirming that the Communication leader is playing a broader role than once anticipated.

Since the publication of the report, we wanted to explore if time had allowed any change in CEO thinking on communications and the role of the contemporary communications function. So, in 2019, VMAGROUP conducted in-depth interviews with CEOs from a multitude of organisations across Europe. These organisations varied from SMEs to large multinationals.

This qualitative survey is a detailed snapshot of ideas and perspectives, intended to provide CEOs, communications professionals, and other business leaders with diverse and sometimes challenging food for thought. The report showcases in-demand skills CEOs require from communicators, what role CEOs expect their communications leaders to play, the rise of digital communication, employer branding and more.

In a post-Covid world, where many organisations are now restructuring their teams, we are undoubtedly seeing a new era for communications. We recognise that some of the views in this report may have changed since the pandemic.

If you would like to speak to a member of our team about the report or would like to know how we can help you with your communications, digital or marketing recruitment, contact our team here.

We also held a webinar discussing the report, which you can watch here.
