Reading, Writing and RedBull!
Pencil? Check. New notebook? Check. Apple for teacher? Check. Video-link, iPad, laptop and interactive whiteboard? Um…. things have changed since I was last here.
The first day of school is always a nervy affair, and starting my recent evening course at the Chartered Institute of Marketing was no different. The only major changes, seemingly, have been the total technology revolution that has occurred in the ten years since I last stepped into a classroom and getting used to learning when I should be sleeping.
Luckily, from top to bottom, VMA Group are huge believers in professional development, internally and externally. How we help our clients and candidates build their communications teams and careers respectively, is very consultative, with a view to a career-long relationship with that person. Whilst most recruiters see their job as ending when there’s a “bum on a seat”, VMA Group’s job is only just beginning.
Having been in the communications market for over 35 years, we have helped thousands of communications professionals grown their careers, perhaps starting at Assistant or Executive level up until they become a Head or Director of Communications and want to build a team themselves. Not only do these people inevitably come back to VMA Group, but they often need support along the way. Whether it’s the hosting of a professional development course through VMA Enhance, access to data from one of our practice surveys, or some informal advice, we are always here to help and see ourselves very much as a “career partner” to the communications industry.
Luckily, this philosophy is ingrained within the company and extends to the people working here as can be seen with the support I have received whilst studying for my CIM qualification. VMA Group has started to re-enter a rapid period of growth, and as such have taken a more strategic approach to our marketing, rather than the (admittedly successful) holding pattern of the previous group marketing plan.
With support through my CIM, I am confident, the marketing department at VMA Group, can evolve with the needs of the company – even if the studying can be quite punishing at times and the classroom has changed beyond recognition!
It’s great to be part of the team that not only values its customers, but practices what it preaches internally as well. So, here’s to a year of reading, writing and RedBull!
