No to “I can’t have”, and yes to “I WILL DO” – a resolution to stick to.
OK comms people, so how many of you resolved to give up something in January, or perhaps even for the year..? Has chocolate, or biscuits, or alcohol (or scarily all three) been cast aside and nibbly bits banned from kitchen cupboards? Or have the best of intentions been drowned in a nice red, or lost in the fog of cold dark mornings and post-Christmas January blues?… Hats off to those who are still hanging in there – you can recognise them by their forlorn expressions and slightly desperate demeanour, probably due to lack of sugar and carbohydrates. But does all this going without really make sense? Why forgo some of life’s simple pleasures when it’s the coldest, darkest and longest month of the year?
Wouldn’t it be better to turn this around and think of proactive resolutions such as what we can DO, rather than what we can do without. And, as comms professionals, we all know never to start with a negative… Besides, more realistic, attainable goals will make you feel better. There’s still February and March to get through, So just have two biscuits rather than the packet; tackle the wardrobe one shelf at a time; take up indoor rock climbing; and if your boss is still driving you bonkers, get that CV updated and email it to VMA! Want to meet more people (business wise or personal) and enhance your profile, get out there and network! But whatever you take up (or abstain from) don’t beat yourself up about it. Our internal voice is always our biggest critic. Besides there’s always Lent….
There is however one resolution that should be actively encouraged: and that’s to continually build on your comms skills and of course VMA can help: click on the event link below and join us for our EC DIGITAL SHOWCASE on the 11th FEBRUARY; you’ll hear from some top comms speakers on social media campaign successes and best practice. It will be informative, entertaining and its free. Now that’s an easy resolution to keep to – see you there!
