My visit to Asia…
As CEO of an international company, with offices now in three continents, I spend a lot of time on planes and travelling! This November I was in the Asia-Pacific region visiting our established offices in both Hong Kong and Singapore, before flying into Shanghai for a raft of business development meetings.
Mainland China is a complex market, with a population that exceeds 1.3 billion people and a land mass larger than the US, China’s sheer scale and size presents challenges uniquely distinct from any other market. But with rapidly changing demographics, rising incomes, increased consumer spending and an opening up of the business market it cannot be overlooked.
Whilst we have made placements in the region, with consumer brands like McDonald’s and consultancies such as Brunswick, among others, we are keen to further develop our presence there. Joined by consultant, Yating Wang (a real rising star in our organisation) I made the two and half hour flight for a number of client meetings and a Head of Communications lunch co-hosted with Cargill, provider of food, agriculture, financial and industrial products and services globally. It was a fascinating and very productive few days, with the VMA Group brand and service offering being very well received. I even managed to see the Great Wall of China and sneak in a selfie!
We continue our expansion in Asia-Pacific, building our network of clients and candidates through the events we organise and those we sponsor – the following feature details our involvement in the first ever Asia-Pacific Communications Summit and Awards, a forum for knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer engagement as well as a central platform for the interchange of best cases, exceptional thinking and experiences to advance the comms profession and daily work practice, held in Hong Kong but attended by professional communicators from a wide range of countries, really representing the region.
