Senior Communications Manager

​We are working with an organisation in the rail industry who are looking for Senior Group Communications Manager for a newly created role within their Communications team. You will be reporting directly to the Group Communications Director and be based in their London office.

This role is 70% Internal communications focused, 30% external communications focused.

Up to £75,000 basic salary depending on experience.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Group Communications Director in all activities towards the protection and enhancement their reputation, ensuring the organisation’s communications strategy is executed effectively, messaging and narrative are consistent and up to date.

  • Develop and deliver communications to their operators and stakeholders in support of the Group’s KPIs, covering PR, media relations, stakeholder engagement, reputation protection and enhancement. This will include relevant measurements and KPIs for impact on key Group stakeholders.

  • Devise messaging and work with the Operator’s communications and stakeholder functions to coordinate and support their activities.

  • Develop and manage the Group’s internal communications strategy

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of internal communications, including leadership communications; this will include internal meetings and conferences, email announcements, videos, ad hoc projects/campaigns with other functions

  • Manage and deliver the annual conference

  • Develop, and contribute to the corporate communications

  • Manage any crisis communications with the Group Communications Director and the leadership team

  • Work closely with the Group Communications Director to ensure strong coordination in helping the Group in its interactions with government and public policy stakeholders in the UK.

Requirements:

  • Experience gained in a senior communications, internal communications, stakeholder or corporate affairs role

  • Experience working in a matrix environment with a variety of stakeholders and with occasionally conflicting priorities will be valuable.

  • Experience and knowledge of the rail industry is desirable but not essential

  • Strong awareness of current news/media trends. Experience and knowledge of the media and political landscapes in the UK is important.

  • A track record in the continual evaluation of the effectiveness of communications work against core objectives, to identify areas for improvement

  • Excellent communicator with a natural ability to able to engage, enthuse and build strong, influential relationships with diverse stakeholder networks

  • Excellent communication skills evidenced by clear and succinct writing style, and the ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible way.

  • You will be experienced in creating and executing communication plans for key strategic projects with demonstrable experience of developing positive working relations with a diverse range of departments / organisations
