Behind the scenes…
I have been working as the Internal Communications Practice Team Assistant at VMA Group for six months now, and throughout my time here I have recognised the importance of supporting a busy and hardworking team. Prior to working at VMA, I worked in various different roles but working as a Team Assistant has proven to be the most educational and rewarding. But how vital is my role in the team?
My first challenges at VMA were not only understanding recruitment but also the Communications industry, in terms of how it’s structured, the way in which VMA Group fits into it and how VMA has built and maintained strong relationships with key clients and candidates. This is an element that I believe to be unique to my role at VMA, it isn’t very often that you are able to learn about two completely different industries in one role!
Working alongside consultants has allowed me to support them during both their day-to-day tasks and busiest times, from helping to create shortlist documents to advertising their roles and creating reports for meetings. Though, perhaps the most productive side to my role is supporting at VMA events. Maintaining a strong relationship between ourselves, our clients and candidates is a hugely important aspect to what VMA is about, and I enjoy being able to assist with this through organising and setting up events.
VMA events are something I consider to be an element of the business that uncouples the Group from its competitors, as they genuinely care about the industries news and updates, as well as its professionals. Without the help of all of the support team at VMA, these events couldn’t be pulled off, which proves the importance of the ‘behind the scenes’ team.
Overall, I am extremely happy with how I have progressed throughout my time as Team Assistant. I have learnt the importance of a support role, the ins and outs of two completely different industries and the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with our valued clients and candidates. I look forward to the future at VMA!
