Three months in…
So I’m three months into my new job here at VMA Group as a Graphic Designer…and all is going well.
Due to the nature of my work there’s never really a typical day. There’s always something new to get my teeth into, whether it’s supporting our marketing campaign for VMA Direct, building micro-sites for our clients, designing collateral for VMA Executive or brainstorming new concepts and design ideas. Being at VMA Group I get the chance to work on projects from start to end which is a really rewarding feeling; I get full involvement from initial idea right through to seeing the finished product in the hands of our clients, candidates and employees.
I have always been a creative person and love being hands-on and grafting. Growing up I had a supply of old school sketchbooks in which I would doodle and think of inventions and after watching my house have a refurbishment, fell in love with the more practical aspects of design as well. Translating that to a digital medium came from University, where we were encouraged to be experimental with our work, whether it be photography, sculpture or graphics. I became more aware of design studios and the type of work they produced so it naturally became a field to explore.
When entering the industry five years ago I was exposed to clients for the first time. Having somebody ask you to change design elements that you feel strongly about can be one of the hardest things to take as a designer. However, with experience I’ve learnt how to take feedback constructively, while using my skills to consult the client on what will work best.
After my first three months at VMA Group, I can safely say that I really enjoy the working environment here. To be surrounded by like-minded individuals who understand the importance of good design and marketing is extremely important to me. Sharing ideas stimulates so much creativity – that’s what I thrive off. Everyone has been very pleasant and welcoming which has made things a lot more comfortable for me.
Good design takes time and money, but at VMA Group the commitment is there, and is genuinely appreciated by everyone – long may it continue!
